Can you tell us a bit about PE at your school and why you decided to try Studio You?
We chunk our PE curriculum into blocks of eight lessons. Each block is a different activity from: invasion games, fitness, athletics, striking and fielding & aesthetic activities. Students enjoy the variety. Studio You has been perfect for some of the fitness lessons with Year 10 and 11s because it offers such a range and variety of lessons. This means we have been able to tailor how it is used to suit the group needs. It has been great to help us upskill in new activities such as combat.
When did you start using the platform?
I discovered Studio You around three years ago, give or take. Since then, I’ve used it to personally upskill myself on teaching combat. I’ve used it to deliver different activities in one lesson and it’s been great when we have changed activities on a wet weather day, when all the girls are taught in one room!
How do you typically use Studio you within your lessons?
Studio You is a great plug in and play solution. Within seconds I can have a lesson that’s curriculum-linked up on the whiteboard, giving me more time and space to help girls in my class one-on-one. Often, I’ll ask the girls what activity they might like to try from a shortlist of lessons, but I’ve also found myself combining different Studio You lessons like combat and yoga in one class. Because I know exactly how long each activity will take, I can adapt quickly to my students, mixing and matching content to make sure each class participates in their preferred activities.
How have your students responded?
It’s been positive. I think the girls have responded well to the fact that the instructors are of all different shapes, sizes, and genders, and they’ve enjoyed the variety of activities on offer. Obviously, some of them still feel self-conscious, but I think overall, they’ve really enjoyed experiencing things they’ve never tried before.
