If you want to explore our range of supporting resources, like Mrs Sabberton-Coe, click the button below. You’ll find a mix of student- and teacher-facing resources that have been developed with PE teachers.
1. Don’t limit yourself to one discipline
There’s tons of choice on Studio You, so mix things up. Pair combat with yoga. Dance with fitness. Every lesson on the platform is clearly labelled with how long it’ll take you to complete it so you can plan accordingly. And it’s this flexibility that’ll help you keep your PE lessons fresh and engaging, no matter the interests of the students you’re teaching.
2. Learn alongside your students
I’ve been doing this job for a long time and as tempting as it can be to stick to what you know, it’s so much more fun learning new things. I’ve never had much experience in combat, but in watching the Studio You lessons I’ve been able to build my confidence in a brand-new discipline. Now, I really enjoy teaching it. And that’s a powerful lesson in and of itself. When we, as teachers, show we’re willing to put ourselves out there and be a bit vulnerable, we’re more likely to inspire our students to do the same.
3. Make the most of the resources
One of the things that I’ve discovered recently is the supporting resources that can be downloaded and shared with students and, of course, fellow teachers. There are guides that’ll help girls get active at home. Different discipline cards. All sorts. And it’s all free. So, it’s something I’d highly recommend checking out. After all, the more knowledge we have at our fingertips, the better we’ll all feel in getting all kinds of girls, from all kinds of backgrounds, engaging with PE.
